Microsoft Windows Vista

Recently Microsoft introduced its latest Operating System offering, Windows Vista. Starting in mid-February, the HMDC Faculty & Staff Desktop support group will be beginning a rigorous testing process to ensure that Windows Vista is compatible with all applications used by CGIS Faculty, Staff and Affiliates.

Until Vista passes our testing criteria, HMDC and FAS Computer Services' official support of this operating system will be limited. Clients who choose to load Windows Vista and subsequently encounter problems will receive our best effort at support, but FASCS cannot currently guarantee the resolution of any problems that occur as a result of loading and/or running Windows Vista.

HMDC Faculty & Staff Desktop Support is anticipating that sometime in the early Fall of 2007 Microsoft will be releasing its first service pack release for Windows Vista. Until that time HMDC is highly recommending that users wait to install Windows Vista as we cannot guarantee the security of applications, documents and personal information under the Vista Operating System.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding HMDC's policy regarding Windows Vista, please contact the Help Desk directly via phone at 495-4734 or via email at support@help.hmdc.harvard.edu.
